5 Exciting Pursuits To Try On A Trip To The Coast

3 minutes

Some people might consider a walk along the beach as about as exciting as they can stand on a trip to the coast. And it probably would be exciting if there is a storm brewing and the beach is strewn with jellyfish. But if your idea of excitement involves trying a new and fun sport, or spending quality time with your family, there are a few exciting pursuits you should definitely try the next time you travel to the coast.

Parascending

Not for the faint of heart

Having a go at parascending is probably not a good idea if you are scared of heights. In fact the sensation of being several hundred feet in the air, anchored to the ground only by a flimsy rope, might be enough to give you a heart attack. But if you like heights and you fancy the opportunity of enjoying the view from a different perspective, have a go at parascending. Many popular coastal resorts offer tourists a chance to be strapped into a parachute and winched up into the air over the sea or beach and it’s good fun.

Surfing and Body Boarding

Ride the waves

Depending on the stretch of coastline you are visiting, surfing and body boarding may be an option. Body boarding is more suitable for beginners because you don’t have to try and stand up on the board. Surfing is harder, but lessons are often available if the area is popular with surfers. If you fancy having a go, beg, borrow or steal a surfboard and head out into the water to catch some waves. However, do take note of any warning signs and if there is a red flag flying, stay on the beach.

Deep Sea Fishing

Go for the big fish

Deep sea fishing is a popular activity for those who want to get out on the water, but would rather not get wet. If you are an experienced fisherman, hire a boat and head off on your own fishing expedition, but if you don’t know the area or have never fished before, sign up for a fishing charter. Guided fishing charters are great for beginners: equipment is usually provided and you can enjoy the support of a knowledgeable and experienced guide to help you maximise your chances of catching something.

Sailing

Relax and enjoy the day

Sailing is a relaxing pursuit when the sky is blue and the sea is calm. You could hire a small boat and head out onto the open water to sunbathe, swim, and even fish if you fancy it. Experienced sailors can charter a boat for a few days or, if you don’t know your port from your starboard, sign up for a day trip. Food and drinks will usually be provided and you can either join a group of strangers or pay extra for a private trip exclusively for family and friends. This is just a small sample of the many exciting pursuits you could try the next time you plan a trip to the coast. And if all of these seem a bit too energetic, you can always spend your time sunbathing and reading a good book instead.
